The World Players of Handball was proud to present the 50th Anniversary Juarez Handball Tournament in Juarez, Chihuahua at the San Angel Handball Club. 55 adult handballers and 17 junior handball players from Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, and Mexico competed in the 50th Anniversary Juarez Handball Tournament presented by the WPH, enjoying one of the best weekend tournaments in the Southwest. Boasting one of the strongest adult and junior handball communities in North America and proudly represented by top 12 WPH Race 4 Eight pros Luis and Daniel Cordova, the 50th Anniversary Juarez Handball Tournament featured nearly a dozen tiebreakers, several matches exceeding the two-and-a-half hour mark, and two 11-10 tiebreakers.
Guillermo Pallares continued to ascend to the top of open handball in the Southwest, slamming the Open Singles and Open Doubles with his partner, Leo Canales. Lorenzo Renteria defeated Oscar Baylon to claim the A Singles, Angel Rios defeated Alejandro Garcia to win the B Singles, Adrian Hernandez defeated Ricardo Pasillas to win the C Singles. Alejandro Garcia and Jorge Sanchez won the B Doubles, Mario Castillo and Raul Canales won the C Doubles and Jonatan/Noe Arenas won the Open Big Ball Doubles. Aldo Acosta won the Advanced Junior Singles, Abraham Sanchez won the Beginner Junior Singles, Alejandro Garcia won the Advanced Junior Big Ball Singles and Edgar Renteria won the Beginner Junior Big Ball Singles.
“We are so impressed by the incredible group of Juarez handball players that serve as tournament directors, tournament volunteers, junior handball mentors and coaches in Juarez,” stated WPH Executive Director David Vincent. “The tremendous Juarez handball community has enabled Juarez to host multiple tournaments each year and take large groups of Juarez junior players to numerous tournaments in 2015, including the USHA Four-Wall Nationals, The WPH Battle of the Border I, the Simple Green U.S. Open and the Tucson R48 Memorial/Battle of the Border II.”
