Daniel Cordova Pre-Juarez Interview

Tucson, AZ, WPH Press, 2/24/25

The WPH had a chance to chat with five-time Race 4 Eight champion and former Race 4 Eight #1 Danos Cordova in advance of the upcoming 2025 Race 4 Eight Juarez. The Race 4 Eight fan-favorite recently relocated to Austin, TX to work in accounting for Samsung, a move Danos predicts will help him play more consistently.

Danos enjoyed a stellar 2023/24 Race season, winning two Race titles (2023 Memorial, 2024 Red), defeating Martin Mulkerrins in both events. In his first four starts on the 2024/25 season, Danos has advanced to two semifinals and one final, standing just three points from winning his sixth Race title at the 2024 R48 Icebreaker.

In this pre-Juarez conversation, Danos discusses his motivation, playing in Juarez, his dad, and the pressure he feels to perform on the tour.

Motivation to play well in Juarez

It’s been tough to find motivation. I’ve always struggled with that for some reason. I am grateful to be healthy though and I feel like I need to take advantage of it because it’s not often that I feel that way. I really just want to find my stride again. Inconsistency has been a big weakness of mine lately.

Juarez is a special event

Juarez is special because of the people. Everyone is excited to watch the pros. You can tell there’s true appreciation for the game.

Your dad’s influence on the Race 4 Eight Juarez

My dad has been key to bringing the R48 to Juarez. He’s ran a ton of tournaments before and now that he’s travelled a lot with us to pro stops, he has the knowledge and connections to put together big events

Playing in front of your home crowd

Playing in front of our home crowd is so electrifying. I have so much energy and adrenaline. I feel like I weigh ten pounds. The key is to use that energy to my advantage, but it’s a fine line. It could go against you pretty easily.

Involvement in running the event

I haven’t been involved much this year, but I feel like it helps me sometimes because it keeps my mind occupied instead of thinking about playing.

Pressure to win

I’ve put a lot of pressure on myself trying to win tournaments, but right now, I’ll just take it a game at a time. Don’t care who I’m playing. I’m just going to focus on my game
