San Francisco, CA, WPH Press, 1/12/20- San Francisco’s famed Olympic Club hosted the 8th Annual Olympic Club Singles Invitational, featuring Erik Torres, the Collado brothers, and a number of NorCal’s top stars.
Torres advanced to the final with wins against Reno’s SR48 star Joe Leonis and perennial Master’s national title contender and Olympic Club ambassador Dean Crispen.
Loren Collado cruised in the bottom bracket, ousting former pro qualifier Steve Dobrash in the quarterfinals and California’s Peter Jansen in the semifinals.
The final was anticlimactic, as an injury Torres suffered in the quarterfinals worsened and the Face Team President was forced to withdraw after a lopsided game one loss. “I hurt my lower back against Joe in the quarters,” stated Torres. “I thought I could play through it but I realized I was only aggravating it more.
Torres def Leonis 21-13, 21-8
Crispen def A. Collado 21-18, 7-21, 11-3
Jansen def R. Lopez 19-21, 21-19, 11-5
Collado def S. Dobrash 21-10, 21-7
Semifinals
Torres def Crispen 21-7, 21-20
Collado def Jansen 21-14, 21-8
Final: L. Collado def Torres 21-3, inj. fft.
