2024 R48/WR48 Juarez Full Preview

Juarez, MEX, WPH Press

The 2024 R48/WR48 Juarez marks the eighty-sixth event in the history of the Race 4 Eight tour, with the tour spanning 17 states and two countries in the R48’s first twelve seasons.

The second Race 4 Eight stop in Mexico features the “Pride of Juarez” and the R48 Juarez defending champion Lucho Cordova, two-time 2023/24 Race 4 Eight champion Danos Cordova (Memorial, Red Death) and seven of the top eight on the R48 Men’s Pro tour. The R48 Men’s Pro bracket features one of the largest draws in the history of the tour, with the R48 Elite 8 joined by several dozen of North America’s and Ireland’s top stars.

The WR48 hits Juarez for the first time, as many of the top women’s pros will hit “El Paso del Norte.” Twenty-seven time WR48 champion Catriona Casey and former WR48 finalists Eilise McCrory and Clodagh Munroe headline a strong WR48 field that includes six WR48 ranked pros.

“Cd. Juarez/El Paso, over time, has been characterized by having very good handball players with a very particular style of play,” stated VIII Juarez R48LTE tournament director and Juarez handball patriarch Luis Cordova, Sr. “Among them we can count Johnny Benitez, Naty Alvarado, Elias Carrillo, Poncho Monreal, Salvador Santa Ana, Luis Clarke, Leo Canales Jr. and Cordova brothers Luis and Daniel, to name a few.”
