The winners of the Men’s and Women’s Open Singles will each receive a $500 travel stipend to play in the 2019/20 R48 Men’s Pro or WR48 Women’s Pro event of his or her choice.

The highly competitive Southwest men’s and women’s handball scene will be center stage in November, as the top men’s and women’s players from Texas, Missouri, Florida, and across the U.S. will battle for the R48 and WR48 Pre Qualifier travel stipends.

Joining the R48 and WR48 Pre Qualifier hopefuls will be age division and skill level players in one of the most well attended collegiate turnouts in the sport.

Texas legend and future USHA hall of famer Jenny Schmitt won the inaugural WR48 Pre Qualifier in April, dominating a strong women’s field. R48 #19 Max Langmack won the 2018 R48 Pre Qualifier in Austin, overcoming former WPH #1 Allan Garner and Austin’s Memo Pallares in the semifinals and finals. Expect very strong R48 and WR48 Pre Qualifier fields this November in Austin.

“There have been several phenomenal rivalries that have developed over the past few years with the top ladies from University of Texas and Missouri State University, as well as women’s pro veterans that can still compete with the twenty-something stars,” declared WPH Development Director David Fink. “The WPH is extremely excited to showcase the women’s stars in Austin for the second time in seven months in the WR48 Pre Qualifier. The R48 Pre Qualifier men’s field will also be sensational, as Austin stars Adam Bernhard and Memo Pallares will aim to defend their home turf against what promises to be a loaded draw.”

“We are so excited to host the third R48 Pre Qualifier and the second WR48 Pre Qualifier in conjunction with our University of Texas hosted events,” exclaimed former Texas State Championships Pre Qualifier tournament director and future WR48 pro Kristen Hughes.

“I am thrilled to be able to compete for a chance to play on the WR48,” exclaimed Missouri State All-American and future WR48 pro Taylor Rumping.
