The 2018 Tucson R48 Pre Qualifier featured the oldest qualifier in the history of the R48 tour, as then 52-year old Leo Canales, Sr. ousted top 16 R48 pros Shorty Ruiz and Abraham Montijo en route to breaking John Bike’s (47) R48 qualifier age barrier by five years. Canales, Sr. will aim to defend his Tucson R48 Pre Qualifier title this September, but will have to once again overcome Shorty Ruiz and Abraham Montijo, as well as the 2018 R48 breakout star Leo Canales, Jr., Danny Perez, and a number of other tremendous Southwest stars.
The winner of the 2019 Tucson R48 Pre Qualifier will earn a travel stipend to the 2019/20 R48 9 event of his/her choice. If the 2019 Tucson R48 Pre Qualifier champion is unable to attend a Race 4 Eight event during this Race season, the finalist will be awarded with the R48 travel stipend. Per WPH R48 Pre-Qualifier rules, if two or more players ranked inside the R48 top 25 enter the 2019 Tucson R48 Pre Qualifier, the winner will receive direct entry into the 2019/20 R48 event of his/her choice. Doubles entries will be donation only, meaning participants can donate whatever they feel is appropriate to support the upcoming Tucson Memorial. The R48 pre qualifiers and doubles players will be joined by women’s singles and junior competitors.
