Kent, Wash. – August 15, 2026 – Under blue skies and sunshine, the tradition of outdoor handball continued at the West Fenwick Park 3-wall handball courts as players gathered for the Meranto-Kent tournament, part of the Summer Handball Outdoor Tournament Series (SHOTS). Players from Washington and Oregon gathered for a day of great handball and lively banter.

After completing round robin doubles play within their respective pools, A and B group top finishers by total points teamed up for final championship matches that determined the tournament’s overall standings. The creative format rewarded strong play throughout the day while producing highly competitive final matches.

Leading the way was Nick Mosely, who captured the A Pool Play Championship before teaming with Ignacio “Nacho” Lebrero, the B Pool Play Champion, to win the A/B Doubles Championship. The victory capped an outstanding day for both players, showcasing Mosely’s strong drives and newcomer Lebrero’s passing shot style.

The A/B Doubles Championship finals showcased strong competition throughout the bracket:

🥇 1st Place: Nick Mosely & Ignacio “Nacho” Lebrero
🥈 2nd Place: Tracy Davis & Ernie McGary
🥉 3rd Place: Maxx Bennett & Larry Hoff

Players and spectators enjoyed another memorable Saturday at the courts, building on the legacy of handball in the region. Tournament co-directors Tom Polzin (Seattle) and Ryan McKenzie (Tacoma) recognized past stewards of the tournament and Meranto family members in attendance.  They emphasized the importance of building on tradition and coordination between player groups to increase player development and community.

“The SHOTS series continues to bring together players of all ages and skill levels while celebrating the rich tradition of outdoor handball,” Tom and Ryan noted. “The atmosphere, competition, and sportsmanship on display in Kent were exactly what the series is all about.”
