The 2024 PA State Championships

Harrisburg, PA, WPH Press, 1/21/24

The Harrisburg Area YMCA East Shore Branch played host to the 2024 PA State Championships, featuring forty-five players from Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York and New Jersey.  Thirty-eight of the forty-five players played in two divisions, making the two-day PA State Championships a grueling weekend.

Pennsylvania’s Andrew Reiersen met New York’s Sheikh Hossain in the Open Singles final in a tri-state clash. The two battled for more than ninety minutes, with neither able to win easy points.

“The Open Singles final was a good match,” stated Jared Vale. “Long and close match. Sheikh should have won but gassed out. He was up 15-7 in the first against Andrew and lost in two games. He needs to work on his stamina.”

New York’s Jai Ragoo defeated tournament director Jay Cattron in the 40+ singles final, relying on his serve-and-shoot 1-Wall style to vanquish Cattron.

WPH Lifetime Achievement award winner Rodney Fink decimated the 70+ singles field, allowing just nine points in his two matches in his third Reign of Terror that has seen him win championships from coast to coast in the last year.
