The Race 4 Eight January Classic in Tucson, January 14-16, 2022

The WPH is thrilled to present the January Classic, the fourth Race 4 Eight Men’s Pro Stop of the R48 10 season at the Tucson Racquet Club in Tucson, AZ, January 14-16, 2022.

The January 14-16 WPH January Classic will also feature Women’s Pro Singles (non WR48), A Singles, Open Doubles, and B Doubles. The matches will likely start early on Saturday morning, but could start late on Friday evening, depending on draw sizes.

January Classic Fun Facts Preview Part 5

  • The January Classic is the 67th R48 Pro event since the inception of the tour in 2011
  • In the first three stops on the R48 X, there have been two different champions: Carroll (2), Fink (1)
  • The R48 January Classic is the second R48 X event to be held at the Tucson Racquet Club (2021 R48 X Tucson Memorial)
  • The R48 January Classic is the third R48 X event held in Tucson – the three stops following the January Classic will be in Houston (February 18), Tucson (March 4), and Salt Lake City (April 8)
  • Two R48 X finalists are in their 40’s: Fink (44), Brady (42)
  • There have been four different R48 X finalists: Carroll (2), L. Cordova (2), Brady (1), Fink (1)
  • The January Classic features R48 Men’s Pro players born in four countries: U.S., Mexico, Canada, Ireland

2021/22 R48 Kansas/Missouri Breakthrough

  • Esser (formerly from KS): first quarterfinal appearance on the Race 4 Eight (finished seventh at the, 2021 Tucson Memorial and seventh at the R48 X Holiday Icebreaker
  • Langmack (KS): first quarterfinal appearance on the Race 4 Eight (finished fifth at the R48 X Holiday Icebreaker
  • Mikaila Esser advanced to her first WR48 semifinal at the 2021 USHA Four Wall Nationals/WR48 Stop #1
