Tucson, AZ, WPH Press, 12/6/19- You’ve seen homes undergo makeovers, but have you seen handball courts transformed from the eyesore of the city to the crown jewel? Well, thanks to the generous support of the Tucson handball community and beyond, Tucson’s Randolph Park’s dilapidated and unsightly south-facing 4-Wall courts received the ultimate makeover, becoming the Tucson and worldwide mecca of outdoor handball.

“Is this the set of the Walking Dead or some really unloved handball courts,” asked Insane Makeover host Michelle du Bois. “This insane makeover was so important to so many people that they wouldn’t let it die, showing once again that Tucson is the mecca of handball in North America.”

“This transformation, this shrine to handball, was built by us, the handball players of Tucson, AZ, and we made it exactly how we wanted it,” stated WPH Executive Director Dave Vincent. “It’s a place where friendships are more important than scores. This is a place that now we have it, we don’t know how we ever lived without it. In this sun-bathed, handball-crazed little city, we have built something that will endure as our legacy.”

The ribbon-cutting ceremony held in mid November brought the local news, many of the Park’s most generous donors and volunteers, and local dignitaries, including Mayor Jonathan Rothschild. All five of the pristine courts were named for those who made dramatic impacts on the project, to include co-project engineers Jeff Healam and Benny Young and the WPH’s greatest supporter, Fred Banfield.

The park was named “Clark Park” after Doug Clark, honoring the Tucson handball ambassador and mega donor for not only his incredible generosity in supporting the Clark Park makeover, but his decades of selfless, enthusiastic, and generous support of Tucson handball.

Make your plans to visit Tucson and Clark Park and enjoy the best handball courts and handball camaraderie in the world!

With all of the hype, pictures and videos, this “project” at the park has not been completed.  A permanent BBQ grill has been ordered and construction will begin soon; meanwhile, a Legacy Wall will be erected in honor of those who have donated $500 or more in professional services or monies toward the park.  Lighting will eventually get installed, grass will be seeded, paint touch-ups, plus routine repairs, and more.  We still need your help to raise the appropriate funds to complete the park and take ownership in this community-wide event.
