Favorite Handball Memories: Abraham Montijo

Abe Still Remembers the Chills from Brady’s Comeback

WPH Press, Tucson, AZ,

The WPH is thrilled to introduce Favorite Handball Memories, featuring any handball player who is willing to share their favorite memory in the sport.

Race 4 Eight star and Fred Lewis Foundation Executive Director Abraham Montijo recalls his Favorite Handball Memory, the most electric match of the twenty-first century.

Abraham Montijo Reflects on his Greatest Handball Memory

My most memorable handball memory is watching the first game of the 2012 World Handball Championship finals between Paul Brady and Luis Moreno in Ireland. It was one of the best matches I have seen live, but the crowd is what makes this such a memorable memory. When Paul tied Luis at 19 in the first game after being down the entire time it was one of the best comebacks on the biggest stage I have ever witnessed. The crowd stood as one and I actually still remember feeling chills from the energy of the crowd. I don’t think Danny Bell even said the score, and if he did, it was too loud to hear it! There were easily 2,000 people in that venue, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was more. That’s the one match that I remember more than others because of the atmosphere.
