Portland’s Lloyd Athletic Club and the Multnomah Athletic Club played host to the 2023 Oregon State Singles Championships, featuring players from Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Hawaii.

R48 #16 Kyle English entered the 2023 Oregon State Singles as the number three seed on the heels of a tenth place finish at the 2023 R48LTE Juarez two weeks prior. English overcame fellow Portland baller Ryan Grossenbacher in the quarterfinals and faced Cody Townsend in the semifinals, one of the best players in the last two decades in the Pacific Northwest. Despite facing match point in the tiebreaker, English overcame Townsend to advance to the final. “Cody was in top form,” stated English. “He is fit and solid, haven’t seen him like this ever.”

Nine-time Oregon State singles champion Dalton Beall awaited English in the final, having defeated Michael Stenberg in the quarterfinals and Austin Biddle in the semifinals.

English wrestled the title away from Beall in the final, withstanding an offensive attack from Beall in the first game and pulling away in the second. “First game Dalton was on fire and I barely won,” stated English. “I played pretty well the second game.”

Final: English def Beall 21-19, 21-10

English will next be in action at the April 21-22 RFC R48LTE Stop #9 and SR48 Pro in Pittsburgh.
