Echoes On the Front Wall

Honoring Legacy, Life, and Brotherhood at the Tucson Memorial

Handball is unlike any other game. We step between four walls with nothing more than gloves, a small rubber ball, and our own hands—striking, chasing, and pouring our hearts into every rally in search of something words can rarely capture. Along the way, those four walls become far more than a court; they become a sanctuary, and the people sharing them become family.
Every November in Tucson, the desert sky paints a quiet reminder that while time moves on, the souls who touched our lives never truly leave us. The Tucson Memorial was born from that sacred bond—created not merely as a tournament, but as a living celebration to honor, archive, and lift up the enduring spirits of the players, characters, jokesters, and leaders who walked onto the court and changed us forever.
This year, our hearts hold a special place of tribute for five beloved pillars of our community who recently completed their final match:
  • Bill Cassidy
  • Billy Lopez
  • Craig Faltin
  • Andy Onate
  • Charlie Charvoz
Their laughter still echoes off the front wall, their grit lives in every hard-fought point, and their memories remain permanently woven into the fabric of the game. In remembering them, we do not merely mourn a loss—we celebrate the light, passion, and camaraderie they gifted each of us.
