IMG_6119 (2)Los Angeles, CA, 3/6/16-The World Players of Handball and WPH Outdoor are proud to present the WPH Outdoor V Stop #3 Gold Cup at Golden Park, featuring the top men’s and junior WPH Outdoor Big Ball handball players in the world competing in 1-Wall Big Ball singles and doubles. The WPH Outdoor V Stop #3 Golden Park is the third stop on the WPH Outdoor V Gold Cup season, as the top players continue their campaigns in the “Race 2 Vegas” and the WPH Outdoor 3WallBall Outdoor World Championships and Player’s Cup Finale. Golden Park is located at 8840 Golden Avenue, Downey, CA 90242.

The WPH Outdoor V Stop #3 Golden Park will feature 1-Wall Big Ball handball’s top attraction and #1 ranked pro Timbo Gonzalez making the cross-country trip from his home on New York City to Southern California. Gonzalez is the reigning 1-Wall Big Ball singles world champion, as well as the current Simple Green U.S. Open 1-Wall champion, the current Red Bull singles champion, and the current 3WallBall 1-Wall singles champion, among other prestigious titles.

“I’m looking forward to playing 1-Wall in a different environment (at Golden Park),” stated Gonzalez. “I know that I’m the favorite, but I will not take any of the WPH Outdoor players lightly. Having played most of the WPH Outdoor guys in 3-Wall over the past few years, I’m looking forward to playing them in 1-Wall. I will go to Golden Park looking to dominate and extend my unbeaten 1-Wall tournament-streak to seven events in 2016.”

DSC05378Joining Gonzalez in the outstanding field in Golden Park will be three-time defending WPH Outdoor Player’s Cup Champion and the current #1 ranked WPH Outdoor star Juan Santos. Santos will be seeking his second consecutive WPH Outdoor V title after dominating the field at the WPH Outdoor V Stop #2 at Nietes Park last month.

“Santos is known as a 3-Wall specialist, but he has proven that he can play incredible handball in any code,” stated WPH Development Director David Fink. “Santos is a future qualifier on the R48 (4-Wall) tour and we have seen him nearly take down some of the game’s best 1-Wall Big Ball stars in year’s past. Santos’ nickname is Ibanez, but could very well be the “Magician” for his sensational shot making and uncanny feel for the game.”

Santos’ greatest WPH Outdoor rival Samzon Hernandez will also headline the Golden Park field alongside Gonzalez and Santos. Santos and Hernandez have combined for 21 of the 24 WPH Outdoor singles titles since the inception of the tour in 2012. Hernandez has proven to be a worthy 1-Wall contender, as evidenced by his near upset of 1-Wall Big Ball legend Rookie Wright in 2011. WPH Outdoor stars Sal “The Wiz” Duenas, Shorty Ruiz, Kevin Gonzalez, Fuji Hernandez, and Chava Cordova will join Gonzalez, Santos, and Hernandez in Golden Park’s impressive 1-Wall field.

The WPH Outdoor V Stop #3 Gold Cup at Golden Park will proudly present junior handball competitions and clinics throughout the weekend, providing opportunities for young people to be active in a family-friendly and positive environment. “The most exciting aspect of the WPH Outdoor series are the dozens of juniors that are able to be inspired at each event by the top players,” stated WPH Outdoor Director Tom Flores. “Junior players watch the WPH Outdoor stars compete from the front row, play in junior singles and doubles brackets throughout the weekend, and take clinics from the game’s best. We are extremely proud of the positive influence we are able to make on the young handball players at each WPH Outdoor event.”
