Tucson, AZ, WPH Press, 2/18/24
WPH board of directors member and WPH mega donor Jeff Healam hosted the February 17 Healam Pro/Am Doubles at the Tucson Racquet Club, featuring five current Race 4 Eight pros and seven teams arranged for competitiveness.
R48 #10 Ivan Burgos teamed with Tucson’s James Oviedo, snagging the top seed. Team Burgos/Oviedo advanced to the final with a come-from-behind tiebreaker victory against R48 #20 Abraham Montijo and Jake Esser, losing game one before winning the next two.
2023 RFC R48 finalist Max Langmack teamed with WR48 #6 Mikaila Esser to meet Team Burgos/Oviedo in the final, ousting Team Espinoza/Williams in the bottom bracket quarterfinals and Team Sam Esser/Hamrick in the bottom bracket semifinals.
The finals would feature the teams splitting overtime games before Team Burgos/Oviedo wrestled control to win their second tiebreaker in as many matches to take the Healam.
Final: Team Burgos/Oviedo def Team Langmack/Mikaila 16-14, 16-18, 15-4
Thank you to Jeff Healam, Khalsa and Russ Whitten for donating the prize money for the finalists. Thank you to Ashley Ruiz for running a great event.
