The 2018 Pittsburgh WPH RFC 10/R48 Pre Qualifier October 13-14, 2018

Pittsburgh, PA, WPH Press, 6/1/18- The World Players of Handball and the Pittsburgh Handball Community are thrilled to present the WPH RFC 10/Pittsburgh R48 Pre Qualifier on SaturdaySunday, October 13-14 2018 at Amerifit Handball Club, located at 100 Roessler Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15220.

The Rodney Fink Classic (RFC) is the WPH’s longest running event, and in its tenth year, has become one of handball’s most coveted prizes. The 2009-2017 RFC list of champions has featured many of this generation’s greatest handball stars, to include former and current #1 WPH stars David Chapman, Luis Moreno, Catriona Casey, Megan Dorneker, David Fink, Charly Shanks, and Tracy Davis.

The winner of the RFC 10/’18 Pittsburgh R48 Pre Qualifier will earn a travel stipend to the Race 4 Eight event of his choice during the 2018-2019 R48 8 season, with the champion choosing from 2018-2019 R48 8 stops in Tucson, Portland, Missoula, San Francisco, and Salt Lake City. If two or more players entered in R48 top 25 enter the RFC 10/’18 Pittsburgh R48 Pre Qualifier, the winner will receive direct entry into the 2018/19 R48 8 event of his choice.

Two-time RFC champion and R48 #13 Stephen Cooney captured the inaugural Pittsburgh R48 Pre Qualifier in 2017, defeating R48 #24 Ryan Bowler in the final. The “Coon Dogg” used his direct entry from his Pittsburgh Pre Qualifier victory to play in the ’18 Bob Harris R48 7 in Las Vegas. “I always love competing in Pittsburgh,” declared Cooney. “The Pittsburgh guys always run a class event and there is always great competition. I look forward to this October’s event.”

The inaugural 2017 Pittsburgh R48 Pre Qualifier featured players from Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, Illinois, Minnesota, Canada, and Ireland, making the 2017 Pittsburgh R48 Pre Qualifier one of the deepest Pre Qualifier fields in history. Expect the same in this year’s edition.

“With the RFC, the WPH Pittsburgh Ladder, JR WPH Pittsburgh clinics, and the Pittsburgh R48 Pittsburgh Qualifier, Pittsburgh has become the national hotbed for handball events and initiatives,” stated RFC namesake Rodney Fink. “We’re excited for our local guys to earn a chance to travel to a Race 4 Eight event this season, while also thrilled to welcome players from Team Canada, Team Cleveland, Team New York and beyond to compete in this exciting R48 Pre Qualifier event.”

“Every time we host a handball event at the club there is a lot of buzz,” stated Amerifit manager and Pittsburgh’s #2 Ladder player Mike Semplice. “Coming off the heels of the first WPH PA State Handball Championships at Amerifit this spring, the Pittsburgh R48 Pre Qualifier is going to be a highly anticipated event. All of the top local players will want to win this one and earn a trip to a Race stop this season.”

Amerfit, the WPH, and the Pittsburgh handball community are excited to host another sensational event in one of the premiere handball communities in the country. Don’t miss it!
