March 24, WPH Press- In a match destined for the highlight reels, Martin Mulkerrins captured his sixteenth Race title with a pair of miraculous comebacks against Leo Canales at the 2026 LAAC R48 Final.
The replay tells a story of pure resilience. Canales opened the match looking completely unstoppable, launching a barrage of kills to build a staggering 12-0 lead in the opening game. Yet, Mulkerrins weathered the storm, eventually finding his rhythm to tie the game at 13 before taking advantage of a few crucial errors to stun Canales 15-13.
The second game provided an almost identical script. Canales raced out to a 10-1 advantage, making a tiebreaker seem inevitable. Instead, Mulkerrins mounted his second massive charge of the day. Catching Canales at 10-10, Mulkerrins refused to yield, reeling off 14 unanswered points to close out the match 15-10. The victory gives Mulkerrins sole possession of second place on the all-time Race leaderboard.
This recap also highlights dominance on the women’s side, with Niamh Heffernan cruising past Aoife Holden in a quick two-game sweep to secure her fourth consecutive WR48 title. In the Senior 40+ Pro Final, the highlights show Sean Lenning dropping a quick first game to Rafa Martinez before finding his lethal serve, battling back to win a thrilling three-game match and defend his LAAC title.
