The Kansas City Athletic Club proudly played host to the Quirk World 3-Wall Doubles Tournament on the second weekend of August, featuring a number of the Midwest’s 3-Wall ballers and outstanding hospitality on great courts.

Men’s Pro Small Ball Doubles

Team Hector Facio and Chip Morales were determined to defend their home court at the KCAC 3-Wall mecca but would need to overcome Race 4 Eight pros and former collegiate All-American teammates Sam Esser and Ross “Hop” Colyer in the final.

Team Facio/Morales gelled on their home court in the final, with Facio controlling the action from the back of the court and Morales, one of the sport’s premiere right-side doubles specialists, dominating with fly kills and corner kills in the front court.

“We played great,” stated Midwest star and former Race 4 Eight top ten pro Chip Morales. “My fly kills were on and Hector was putting the ball a foot from the back line (with drives). At the end of the second game, my low power serve was glued to the right-side wall and earned a few aces. We didn’t make too many mistakes and we covered each other well.”

“Hector hit great drives and Chip played a steady right side and put the ball down the whole match,” stated R48 #9 and 2024 Ice Bowl finalist Sam Esser.

Semifinals

Team Facio/Morales def Team Streibig/Benkelman 21-5, 21-5

Team Esser/Colyer def Team Campos/Hernandez 21-6, 21-8

Final: Team Facio/Morales def Team Esser/Colyer 21-16, 21-9

Thank you to tournament director Adam Azeltine and the KCAC for a great event.
