The Inner City Handball Association played host the 30th Annual City Council Speaker’s Cup 1-Wall small ball Handball Tournament (formerly the Mayor’s Cup) in Memory of Jim Jacobs philanthropist and Handball Champion on the final weekend of July in Coney Island, Brooklyn, featuring more than 100 players.
Men’s Open Singles
The Bastidas brothers headlined the 13-player men’s open singles field, as they have for the last two decades in 1-Wall small ball handball. Tyree and Jurell met in the final, after both won routine quarterfinal and semifinal wins. 10-time USHA One Wall national champion Tyree was too strong for his older brother in the final, capturing the Speaker’s Cup as he prepares to defend his USHA National One-Wall title next week.
