R48 Co-#3 pros Danos and Lucho Cordova brought the Flying Cordovas show to the Wellmark YMCA in Des Moines, IA for the 71st Tallcorn/Central Regionals. Danos overcame defending champion and R48 #17 Max Langmack in a tiebreaker in the upper bracket semifinals, while Lucho defeated R48 #27 Sam Esser in the bottom bracket semifinal to face brother Danos in a final for the second consecutive weekend (Torneo de Juarez.)

The Cordovas played a 21-20 game for the second weekend in a row, with Lucho prevailing to take a one-game lead in the Tallcorn final.

“The two traded leads throughout the first game, with each responding to the other’s quick runs, with the game featuring long rallies, spectacular gets, and fly kills and passes,” reported WPH Next Gen star Max Langmack. “Tied at 18, Danos jumped to a 20-18 lead, but Lucho fought back with diving gets to tie the game at 20 and eventually took the game.”

Lucho seized the momentum from taking the first game and closed out the match in two, defeating younger brother Danos for the second weekend in a row for a title. “The two traded leads throughout the second game until the midway point, when Lucho proved to be too much and pulled away,” reported Langmack. “The Cordovas really put on an exciting show!”

The Flying Cordovas completed the Juarez sweep in the Open Doubles final, as Team Juarez ousted Team Kansas (Langmack/Esser) in two games.
