Juarez, MEX, WPH Press –

The 2025 R48 Juarez marks the ninety-third event in the history of the Race 4 Eight tour, with the tour spanning seventeen states and two countries since the Race 4 Eight’s inaugural season in 2011/12.

The third Race 4 Eight stop in Mexico and fifth stop of the 2024/25 Race 4 Eight season features R48 #1 Martin Mulkerrins aiming to defend his 2024 Race 4 Eight Juarez title and continue his two-tournament, nine-match undefeated Juarez streak. Mulkerrins saw his five-tournament, twenty-six match Race winning streak come to an end at February’s Red in Montana, as Mulkerrins lost to the “Pride of Juarez,” Lucho Cordova in a thrilling final.

Lucho tied Mulkerrins with eleven Race 4 Eight titles (third all-time) with his win at the Red and announced that he is back after enduring a thirteen-month winless stretch. “I don’t know how I did it,” Lucho would say after winning three consecutive tiebreakers to win the 2025 Red, all of which saw him come from seemingly insurmountable deficits.

Joining Mulkerrins and Lucho in the deep 2025 Juarez draw will be 2024 Juarez finalist and Juarez #3 seed Leo Canales, five-time Race 4 Eight champion Danos Cordova, Sam Esser, Ivan Burgos, Vic Perez, Sean Lenning, former R48 #1 Mando Ortiz making his first Race start in seven years, Ireland’s former #1 Diarmaid Nash, current junior national champion Eli Gutierrez, and a number of the Race 4 Eight’s veterans and future stars.

“Cd. Juarez/El Paso, over time, has been characterized by having very good handball players with a very particular style of play,” stated VIII Juarez R48LTE tournament director and Juarez handball patriarch Luis Cordova, Sr. “Among them we can count Johnny Benitez, Naty Alvarado, Elias Carrillo, Poncho Monreal, Salvador Santa Ana, Luis Clarke, Leo Canales Jr. and Cordova brothers Luis and Daniel, to name a few.”
