Milwaukee, WI, WPH Press, 12/8/19- The 2019 Milwaukee Classic featured the USHA Women’s Classic, Men’s Pro Singles and Doubles, as well as amateur singles and doubles brackets for every age category and skill level. The Milwaukee Classic represents the highlight of the handball season in the Midwest, as nearly 200 handball players from across the U.S., Ireland, and Mexico trekked to the Wisconsin Athletic Club for the Classic.

“This is the 39th edition of the Milwaukee Handball Classic,” stated Milwaukee Classic promoter and co-tournament director Jeff Werstein. “We are the premier event in the Midwest showcasing some of handball’s best talent. The WHA and our generous sponsors truly enjoy hosting this event every year. We pride ourselves in having the region’s best hospitality, best atmosphere and some great competition in all age and skill levels. The support of the WPH pros has been fantastic over the last several years. We welcomed five of the top eight at our event this year, plus several other ranked players. Special for this year, we are hosting the USHA Women’s Classic, a fine event we are honored to have. A special recognition goes to my co-director, Charlie Keller, who is directing his 30th Classic, we are indebted to his commitment to the game.”

USHA Women’s Classic

WR48 #2 Ciana Ni Churraoin and fellow Irish star Megan McCann headlined the 31-player Women’s Classic, with women’s collegiate superstars Kristen Hughes (TX), Taylor Rumping (MO), Mikaila Mitchell (MO), Meghan Mudd (MO), Christina Pecaut (MO), Avery Shepherd (TX), and Bella Smith (TX) aiming for a breakthrough in one of the year’s premiere women’s events.

CNC and 2M were on the collision course for Sunday’s final, as both Irish ladies were playing levels above their opposition on their respective sides of the Milwaukee Women’s Classic draw.

Sunday’s final was a rematch of the GAA WallBall final from earlier this year that saw CNC oust 2M for the prestigious All Ireland WallBall title. Milwaukee’s final would be more of the same for CNC, who kept the sharp shooting McCann off-balance with well-placed drive serves and two-handed power.

Quarterfinals

Ni Churraoin def Mudd 21-0, 21-1

Hughes def Rumping 21-12, 13-21, 11-5

Mitchell def Pecaut 21-8, 21-4

McCann def Vidas 21-0, 21-0

Semifinals

Ni Churraoin def Hughes 21-12, 21-2

McCann def Mitchell 21-2, 21-13

Final: Ni Churraoin def McCann 21-12, 21-8

Men’s Pro Singles

Two-time defending Milwaukee Classic champion and R48 #1 Killian Carroll highlighted the Men’s Pro Singles field at the 2019 Milwaukee Classic, with many of his fiercest R48 rivals, to include R48 #2 Daniel Cordova, R48 #3 Sean Lenning, R48 #4 Luis Cordova, and R48 #6 Vic Perez aiming to end the “Flash” streak in Cream City.

Carroll made it a three-peat in Brew Town, cruising to his third consecutive title without dropping a game in Milwaukee for the third consecutive year. Carroll was ruthless in dominating Max Langmack in the quarterfinals, Vic Perez in the semis, and Sean Lenning in the final. Carroll has never lost one game in Brew Town, leaving Milwaukeeans to consider renaming their beloved city “Flash City.”

Quarterfinals

Carroll def Langmack 21-7, 21-16

Perez def D. Cordova 21-12, 16-21, 11-1

Lenning def Kerr 17-21, 21-10, 11-6

Cordova def Esser 21-8, 21-5

Semifinals

Carroll def Perez 21-18, 21-5

Lenning def L. Cordova 21-17, 19-21, 11-3

Final: Carroll def Lenning 21-16, 21-4

Men’s Pro Doubles

Fueled by their disappointing singles results in Milwaukee, The Flying Cordovas played sensationally in the doubles, dropping the first game in both the semifinals and finals to Killian Carroll/Sean Kerr and Vic Perez/Sean Lenning, respectively, before storming back in both matches to win the pro doubles.

Semifinals

Team Perez/Lenning def Team Munson 21-9, 21-4

Team Cordova def Team Carroll/Kerr 14-21, 21-15, 11-5

Finals: Team Cordova def Team Perez/Lenning 4-21, 21-9, 11-8
