Icebreaker Semis: Ruiz vs Esser LIVE Now!!

Semifinal #1: Shorty Ruiz vs. Sam Esser

WPH Press, 9/24/20

The WPH is proud to present the WPH Tucson 4-Man Icebreaker, the first official WPH event since February.

“We want to show people that we could safely hold an event with all of the COVID protocols in place,” stated WPH Executive Director David Vincent. “We closed the park, had the referee wearing a mask, had our fans social distance in masks and ensured the players were distanced as much as possible.”

Tucsonans David Fink, Shorty Ruiz, Abraham Montijo and Sam Esser kicked off the first Icebreaker, proudly demonstrating that handball can be played safely during this pandemic.

Semifinal #1: Shorty Ruiz vs. Sam Esser

3-time 3WallWall World Champion Shorty Ruiz faced former collegiate All-American and Tucson’s newest pro resident Sam Esser in the first semifinal in the first WPH Icebreaker Pro Stop at Clark Park. Since Esser arrived in Tucson the pair matched up several times in practice matches, but the Icebreaker would be their first tournament clash.

Could Esser overcome the 3-Wall sensation or would Ruiz use his 3-Wall shot making and experience to overwhelm the “Kansas Kid?”

This was a can’t miss match. Enjoy!
