D Breaks Down His Tournament Preparation
WPH Instructional, Tucson, AZ
The WPH is thrilled to introduce WPH Tournament Preparation Series, taking you inside the tournament preparation of the game’s top players. In the WPH Tournament Preparation Series, you will learn what it takes for the sport’s best to condition themselves for the physical and mental rigors of pro level competition.
Diarmaid Nash is the current GAA All Ireland 40×20 and USHA Four Wall National champion, making him one of the world’s greatest and most popular stars. The stylish lefty is also one of the most fit and well-prepared players in the sport. How does “D” prepare himself for a big tournament? D graciously shared his routine with the WPH.
Diarmaid Nash Tournament Preparation
“A normal week would include six training days out of seven. Total number of training sessions would be roughly 7-9 broken down somewhat as follows:
- 2 gym
- 2 running
- 2 handball games
- 2 individual handball sessions
Depending on the time of year, might be more gym/running heavy than handball per se. Also, certain weeks I might play more handball to try replicate playing when you’re sore, so to speak
Anybody could do my training schedule – the hard part is keeping the training consistent for months on end because it takes time.”
Next time we speak to Diarmaid, “D” will take us inside his tournament preparation week. Stay tuned for upcoming WPH Tournament Preparation Series features.
