The WPH is proud to present the WPH Icebreaker #6, the sixth official WPH Icebreaker event since September.

“We want to show people that we could safely hold an event with all of the COVID protocols in place,” stated WPH Executive Director David Vincent. “We allowed a limited number of socially distant fans, while ensuring the players were distanced as much as possible.”

David Fink and Sam Esser were both appearing in their third WPH Icebreakers in the WPH’s sixth Icebreaker at Tucson’s Clark Park. Fink and Esser had not crossed paths in their previous Icebreaker starts, and would be playing one another for the first time in tournament play.

Fink controlled the match from the outset against the “Kansas Kid,” serving deep and ending rallies with power ceiling shots and corner kills.

“Sam and I play pretty frequently, and I know I have to play my best to win,” stated Fink. “My serve was on, and that enabled me to dictate play.”

Esser was unable to dictate play off his serve, leaving him on his heels and unable to play consistent offense.

Fink needed just 30 minutes to cruise to the final in two games.

Final: Fink def Esser 21-4, 21-8
