Texas State Championships In Honor of Coach Wayne Lee

Adam Bernhard and Memo Pallares renewed their Lone Star state rivalry at the 2021 Texas State Championships In Honor of Coach Wayne Lee, with the pair seemingly meeting for every major title in Texas for the past decade.

“The tournament turned out great,” stated Bernhard. “Memo started red hot in the first, especially for someone who has not played but five times during Covid. He (Memo) led 10-0. I just tried my best and eventually it got closer and closer. I took a more aggressive route and lucky shots were going in and was able to win (the first) 21-18. Second game I stayed hot and he let up and gave me a lead that I kept. It was wonderful to be back on the court for our state tournament.”

Men’s Open Singles

Bernhard def H. Smith 7-21, 21-14, 11-3

Pallares def Bacon 21-9, 21-10

Final: Bernhard def Pallares 21-18, 21-10

Women’s Open Singles

Hughes def Shepherd 21-13, 21-17

Bell def Camacho 21-4, 21-1

Final: Hughes def Bell 21-18, 21-12
