2025 IHA Men’s and Women’s State Singles Championships
Schaumburg, IL, WPH Press, 1/19/25
Tournament director Dave Munson and the IHA were proud to present the 2025 IHA Men’s and Women’s State Singles Championships at Schaumburg Tennis Plus featuring nearly one-hundred players in Schaumburg, IL on the third weekend of 2025
2024 R48 Portland Classic finalist and current R48 #6 Ray Ure and Midwest women’s handball legend Megan Dorneker aimed to defend their IHA Men’s and Women’s Open State Singles Championships in fields that included Race pros Andres Cordova, Dave Munson, Bill Mehilos, Clodagh Munroe, and Audrey Peters, in addition to top Midwest stars Dane Szatkowski, Jodie Keeling, Carly Munson, Izzy Klicker, Bryan Trejo, and Mike Munson.
Men’s Open Singles
2024 Race 4 Eight Breakout Star Ray Ure decimated the top half of the men’s open singles draw, defeating David Elkin, Andres Cordova, and Mike Munson to advance to the final, allowing his three opponents just thirty-one combined points in six games.
Second-seeded and second-ranked SR48 pro Dave Munson was not as dominant in the bottom half but advanced to meet Ure in the final with a two-game sweep against SR48 rival Bill Mehilos in the semifinal.
Ure continued to dominate in Schaumburg in the final, never allowing Munson into the match.
“I felt pretty smooth throughout the match and got my serve going, especially in the second game,” Ure would later say. “I was able to push him around the court with low passes.”
Semifinals
Ure def M. Munson 21-5, 21-4
Munson def Mehilos 21-10, 21-19
Final: Ure def D. Munson 21-7, 21-7
Women’s Open Singles
Top-seeded Megan Dorneker met WR48 #4 Clodagh Munroe in the final, with Dorneker ousting Lake Forest College’s Emma Kinane in two games in the semifinals and Munroe needing a tiebreaker to overcome Jodie Keeling in the bottom bracket semifinals.
Munroe was too strong for Dorneker, using her variety and all-court game to continue her Midwest domination.
“Both games were close to begin but I feel my 3-Wall serve was working well and with ceiling and pass shots I was able to break away from Megan and finish the game out,” stated Munroe.
Semifinals
Dorneker def Kinane 21-6, 21-11
Munroe def Keeling 19-21, 21-9, 11-4
Final: Munroe def Dorneker 21-8, 21-6
Thank you to Dave Munson and the IHA for its outstanding hospitality and great competition.
