Tournament director Jeffrey Werstein and the Wisconsin Athletic Club were proud to present the 2025 Milwaukee Classic on the first weekend in December, featuring many of the Midwest’s top players.

Men’s Open Singles

R48 #5 and 2025 Race 4 Eight Memorial champion Ray Ure headed the 2025 Milwaukee Classic field and aimed to defend his 2024 Brew City title against a strong field that included R48 Elite 8 peer and Mankato teammate Mark Doyle and Race 4 Eight pros Bryan Trejo, Dylan Schmitt, and Dave Munson.

Ure was dominant is his title defense in Milwaukee, winning his three matches without dropping a game, including a two-game sweep against Mankato teammate Bryan Trejo in the semifinals and a dominating win against another Mankato teammate Mark Doyle in the final.

“Ray played well and served well,” Doyle would later tell the WPH. “He’s hitting the ball so hard it’s hard to comprehend until you play him, there’s not too many people out there serving and hitting as hard as him. But I’m disappointed with the amount of set ups I skipped. I felt like I was doing good to get the set up, so it’s disappointing to just miss the majority of them, but at the same time that’s probably a lot to do with what Ray is doing and the pressure he puts you under.”

Semifinals

Ure def Trejo 21-11, 21-6

Doyle def D. Munson 21-11, 21-12

Final: Ure def Doyle 21-3, 21-10

Women’s Open Singles

WR48 #3 and Milwaukee Classic defending Clodagh Munroe headlined the 2025 Classic field that also included 2025 Bear Bash WR48 Pre Qualifier champion Hannah Grace (HERE), Suz Koehler, Emma Kinane, Izzie Klicker, Audrey Peters, and Carly Munson in the 15-player women’s field.

Munroe continued her Midwest supremacy, joining Mankato teammate Ray Ure in defending her Milwaukee title in dominant fashion. Munroe defeated Missouri’s State’s Taylor Bell in the semifinals and played nearly flawlessly in the final against former WR48 finalist Suz Koehler in the final.

“I thought I played a lot better than I have been,” Clodagh would tell the WPH. “I worked on serves with Coach (Wells) before the tournament and I thought that helped a lot. [In the final] I felt my serves and pass shots where what helped me gain a big lead, but overall I don’t think the score reflected the game, the rallies were long and Suz was picking a lot!”

Semifinals

Munroe def Bell 15-5, 15-10

Koehler def Keeling 21-13, 21-9

Final: Munroe def Koehler 21-7, 21-5

“The 2025 edition of the Milwaukee Handball Classic was proud to be back at the Wisconsin Athletic Club in West Allis, Wisconsin,” stated Werstein. “The Milwaukee Handball Classic is the region’s premiere event.”
