Tournament director Sean Haley and the Bay Club Pleasanton proudly hosted the 2025 Golden State Open on the first weekend in October featuring players from throughout California. Handball kicked off a three-sport extravaganza at the Bay Club Pleasanton. “Bay Club Pleasanton is hosting Pickleball, Handball, and Racquetball, all in a two-week span,” stated Haley.
Men’s Open Singles
The Men’s Open singles featured a four-player round robin, with monumental battles being played in each of the matches.
“David Sanchez and Jake Cosgrove had long rally after long rally,” stated NorCal scoop and ambassador Mike Linnik. “Jake can run down any ball, and David has a long reach that keeps just about every ball in play. Both players pushed each other, never asked for the towel, and kept the pace on h-i-g-h. Lil’ Phenom likes to show off his big ball chops, with behind the back/no look kills. Jake hits the ball hard, and slipped some good drive serves down the right side. Result? 10-10 tiebreaker that went back & forth, before Sanchez closed it out.”
“The other anticipated match was Captain America (Peter Jansen) and the dangerous Chad Packin,” continued Linnik. “Chad played smooth against both Jake Cosgrove and David Sanchez on Saturday. On Sunday, Peter just “looked strong” in the warmups. Chad did a lot of sprints (ala Danny Armijo). Peter simply put maximum pressure on Chad with hard, low serves, that went down the right to Chad’s offhand, or sneaked in a powerful serve down the left. The ball was very lively, and Peter put maximum power on every pass. His left-handed kills reached the left corner, and his Z serves hugged the glass, to Chad’s amazement. Chad tried to change the rhythm, but Peter’s focus was pure and unwavering. Game, match to Peter in two quick ones.”

“It was a good time,” stated Haley. “Everyone got plenty of action, good food, and beautiful club.”
“Lots of juniors in attendance, thanks to Salvador “Chava” Olascon,” stated Linnik. “They typically play big ball at Gilroy, but they were thoroughly enjoying the challenge of small ball.”
