Trejo Repeats at the 50th Annual Rudy Harris Handball Tournament

Fargo, ND, WPH Press, 10/7/26

Written by Mark Winkelman

On October 2-3, forty-six players from North Dakota, Minnesota, Manitoba, and Arizona battled on the courts while fans from as far as Tennessee, Utah, and Germany cheered them on.  The results are provided further below.

At the Friday Night Social, some players and fans kept going strong until close to midnight, we set a club record for the largest social food/beverage tab, and everyone had a great time.  Thank you to the many local players who made the donations that made this possible!

At the Saturday Night Banquet, players and fans enjoyed cold beverages, great food, and a 50-pound sheet cake celebrating Rudy; a slide show and several presentations/speeches honoring Rudy; the Presentation of the Rudy Harris Award to Dee Jones, Kent Jones, and Richard Stevens for their contributions to and promotion of handball; and the thrill of the raffle.  Thanks to a number of generous players and guests buying raffle tickets for the Mankato State student players, the Mankato crew walked away with the most raffle prizes.  However, Denny Tallman won the grand prize!

Special thanks go out to:

  • Rudy’s kids (Richard, Bill, & Diane), their children, and other relatives who made the trek to Fargo to help us honor Rudy!  We hope you enjoyed being in Fargo as much as we enjoyed having you all hear!!!
  • Dee Jones and Bill Kelly for the extensive time they each put in planning, organizing, and running various aspects of the tournament!  Your hard work made the tournament a huge success!!!
  • The many committee members and local players who donated significant time and/or money to help us pull off the largest and best tournament the F-M Handball Club and YMCA have hosted in many years!!!
