The 2015 WPH Torneo de Juarez Pre-TPC Shootout and Junior WPH Clinic

The World Players of Handball is proud to present the 2015 WPH Torneo de Juarez Pre-R48 Player’s Championship Shootout and Junior WPH Clinic in Juarez, Mexico, March 27th-29th. Five of the world’s top 16 players will be on hand, including three of the top eight. WPH #2 Luis Moreno headlines the field, with WPH #4 Sean Lenning, WPH #6 and “Brady-slayer” Mando Ortiz and WPH #16 Abraham Montijo also making the 326-mile trip across the border to Juarez. Local heroes Daniel Cordova and Luis Cordova, ranked 8th and 13th, respectively, will serve as tournament hosts, while also trying to defeat the traveling pros from Tucson.

“Having the top players coming to Juarez really means a lot to the handball community here in Juarez,” stated Luis Cordova. “All of the Juarez players are all talking about the event and getting exited about the tournament. The handball community in Juarez is really strong right now and we have a lot of very talented young players coming up. This is probably going be the strongest tournament in the history of Juarez.”

The young players from Juarez will not only have the opportunity to watch the top pros and compete against them, but will also have the opportunity to learn from the pros in a special WPH sponsored junior clinic. “Junior WPH is thrilled to host a junior handball clinic for the second consecutive year at the WPH Torneo de Juarez Pre-TPC Shootout,” revealed WPH Youth and Donor Development Director David Fink. “All of the pros are extremely excited to work with the kids, and we are fortunate to have WPH Certified Coach Luis Cordova leading the clinic.”

Aside from the tournament action and the junior handball clinic, the pros and the other tournament participants will be treated to an exiting weekend in Juarez that includes a special 2-Wall hardball exhibition match featuring the four best 2-Wall hardball players in Juarez. The pros and tournament participants will also have the opportunity to test their skills on the 2-Wall court.

“Having the pros in Juarez is great,” revealed Luis Cordova. “It motivates everybody in Juarez to play harder and it makes new players want to start playing. My brother, my uncle and I started playing handball when Juarez held a pro stop in 2001. We are all very exited to host the pros and especially excited for the guys who have played all of their lives but have never really seen a top-level player.”
