Team Munson Defends Illinois State Doubles Title in Schaumburg

Schaumburg, IL, WPH Press, 10/19/25

Tournament director and WPH ambassador Dave Munson and the Illinois Handball Association proudly presented the 2025 Illinois State Doubles at the Schaumburg Tennis Plus, featuring men’s and women’s open, skill level, and age division small ball 4-Wall doubles.

Men’s Open Doubles

Team Munson won the 2024 IL State Doubles and aimed to defend their Prairie State title in Schaumburg. Team Munson would face a strong field that included Team Szatkowski, Team Mehilos/Conneely, and several more of the Midwest’s strongest teams.

Two of handball’s strongest brother teams met in the Illinois State final after Team Munson defeated Team Rodriguez/Clarke in the upper bracket semifinal and Team Team Szatkowski defeated Team Mehilos/Conneely in a tiebreaker in the bottom bracket semifinal. Team Munson overcame Team Szatkowski in a two-game final.

“It was closer than the score,” Dave Munson would later say. “We’ve played them so many times, so we know each other’s games. They came off the court of the 35 final, so we might have been fresher. Mike was serving really well with several crack aces. We were able overpower them to get the shots we needed to end the volley.”

Semifinals

Team Munson def Team Rodriguez/Clarke 21-11, 21-4

Team Szatkowski def Team Mehilos/Conneely 21-8, 17-21, 11-2

Final: Team Munson def Team Szatkowski 21-12, 21-13

Thank you to Dave Munson and the IHA for a great event.
