Team Cordova Captures the Inaugural TEDI Title

Tucson, AZ, WPH Press, 9/20/25

The inaugural TEDI – Tucson Elite Doubles Invitational – presented by Ashley Ruiz, Jeff Healam, and Doug Clark, featured a sixteen-player, eight-team invitational played on the third weekend of September at the Tucson Racquet Club.

“We feel like we never see the best doubles because guys are always playing singles as well,” stated TEDI sponsor Jeff Healam. “This way the guys will be fresh and have a great time.”

Team Cordova entered the TEDI as the top seeds and dominated Team LAAC (Perez and Ortiz) to advance to the upper bracket semifinals. Facing Team Grand Canyon State (Canales and Montijo), Team Cordova nearly raced to the final in two games. Team Arizona was able to force a tiebreaker with a late surge in game two, but Team Cordova took control in the third, emphatically dominating the tiebreaker.

The bottom bracket featured second-seeded Team Mulkerrins overcoming Team Doyle/Langmack in the opening round to face sixth-seeded crowd favorites Team Lenning/Chapman. Team Lenning/Chapman served for the first game twice at 14-12 but could not convert, eventually facing game point at 14-15. Team Lenning/Chapman would then fight off game point in overtime and score the final three points to take a one-game lead. Team Mulkerrins quickly forced a tiebreaker but the brothers could not carry their momentum into the third, as the sixth seeds dropped the Irishmen to advance to the final.

Team Cordova would play their second tiebreaker of the day in the final, splitting the first two games with Lenning/Chapman. “I didn’t feel like we played well,” Lucho would later say. “Sean caught fire end of the second game. We were up 10-6 and they came back to win, 15-10.”

Team Cordova separated themselves late in the tiebreaker, stretching a 9-8 lead to a 14-8 lead on the strengths of Lucho’s hot hand. Team Cordova clinched the title on their second match point, becoming the TEDI’s first champions.
