Sports Illustrated featured Handball’s Top 8 on April 15, 1974, the Handball Pro Tour’s second official season. The Top 8 in 1974 comprised Fred Lewis, Paul Haber, Dennis Hofflander, Billy Yambrick, Lou Russo, Dr. Steve August, Gordy Pfeifer, and Dave Graybill. This Sports Illustrated story discussed the sport, the birth of the pro tour in 1973, the pros, as well as the action in the 1974 Pro Stop in Aurora, IL. While this Sports Illustrated story may not have painted Handball in the most favorable light, handball fans will still get a thrill reading about the game’s best from 1974.
