Healy: ‘I was borderline obsessed with winning the Senior Singles’
WPH Press
The WPH has proudly presented the WPH Sunday Stats since the start of 2020, highlighting the Race 4 Eight’s and Icebreaker’s greatest champions and stats, longest winning streaks, greatest accomplishments, tournament directors, nicknames, obscure stats, handball’s origins and history, handball champions featured in national publications, and so much more.
This Sunday we will revisit the 2020 GAA feature written by Paul Fitzpatrick on Tony Healy – Healy: I Was Borderline Obsessed With Winning the Senior Singles’ HERE
Tony Healy was one of Ireland’s greatest champions, and alongside Paul Brady, inspired the current Irish stars to become the best players in the world. Healy won four All Ireland 40×20 singles titles, the 2008 Simple Green U.S. Open, and countless other prestigious tournaments.
Speaking of his formative years and one of his first major successes at the Senior level, Healy said: “I beat Walter and Eddie on the way to a final loss to Peter McCauley, that was one of my only scalp opportunities back then, but it was a pivotal event for me in the confidence it gave me to be in the mix with these players, and start to challenge them rather than just looking up to them.”
