Race 4 Eight pro Diarmuid Mulkerrins hosted the Shoot-Out 4 Liam at the Moycullen Handball Club in early January, a handball and racquetball fundraiser for Liam Davoren. Liam suffered a tragic accident in October that saw Liam placed into a medically induced coma for three weeks, endure two major surgeries and is currently recovering in the High Dependency Unit in Galway University Hospital.

Liam is a second year Construction Management Student at Atlantic Technical University and is a GAA star Hurling, Football and Handballer.

From event organizer Diarmuid Mulkerrins:

“The Shoot-Out 4-Liam was very successful. We had forty local handball players competing in the event with all proceeds going to the Hope4Liam campaign. There was a racquetball tournament on as well in the 60×30 court with a further forty players involved in that too.

In the handball there were ten teams of four. The games were very exciting for the large crowd of supporters that came. The rally scoring timed games format made it very competitive. Before the Shoot-Out 4-Liam final, Martin Mulkerrins and Killian Carroll went head-to-head in an exhibition game in front of a packed gallery. There wasn’t space for everyone, supporters were watching the game on TV’s in the foyer and conference room. It was brilliant to have the reigning and former world singles champions and current world doubles champions playing. They played two 15’s, taking a game each and then we had the Shoot-Out 4-Liam final which wrapped up a great day.

We’d like to thank everyone that supported the event and generously donated to the Hope4Liam campaign. Anyone that would like to donate can do so at www.hope4liam.com. For further information and results visit Moycullen Handball Oifigiúil on Facebook. Thanks to Eilish Owens and Joe Howley for the photographs.”

Thank you to Diarmuid Mulkerrins for organizing this very special event benefiting Liam.
