Leo Canales, Jr. entered his quarterfinal against Sam Esser having never lost to the “Kansas Kid,” including a thrilling collegiate national final. Canales would be seeking his second R48 semifinal, while Esser would be aiming to build on his best R48 finish at the 2021 Tucson Memorial.
