Pre-Nationals Chat with Fiona Tully

Fiona Dishes in advance of the 2022 USHA Four Wall Nationals

WPH Press, 6/12/22

The WPH had a chance to chat with the WR48 #2 and the number two seed in the Women’s Open at the upcoming 2022 USHA Four Wall Nationals Fiona Tully. Fiona discusses how she developed her game, what she thinks of playing Catriona, playing with more consistency and more as she prepares for Portland’s big event.

You have entered the one-name club in handball: Catriona, Martina, Aisling, Killian, Fiona. What has enabled you to take your game to the elite of the sport?

Constant practice when I was younger has played a big role in the player I am today thanks to Michael Naughton who brought me into the court every single day.

You have played Catriona several times this year. What makes her so difficult to play?

She’s a very consistent player and rarely plays bad.

You lost in the semifinals at the 2022 WR48 Player’s Championship to Martina and were not happy with your performance. What have you tried to improve since that match?

Since this I have tried to improve on consistency as this is something that I lack in my game and the right shot selection would be another area

Your boyfriend, David Walsh, is the current USHA collegiate national champion. Do you play practice matches with him? If so, how does that help your game?

Ha ha, ya and I always win, obviously! We don’t play as much as people probably think because he’s got his own people to play so I leave him at it.
