WR48 #1 Catriona Casey Returns to the USHA Four Wall Nationals

WPH Press, 6/15/22

On the eve of the USHA Four Wall Nationals, Catriona Casey shared her thoughts on returning to the championship she has won in five of her last six starts, her rivalry with Fiona, her preparation for the event and more.

This will be your first appearance at the USHA Four Wall Nationals since winning the 2019 edition. How excited are you to return to an event in which you have had so much success?

I am definitely excited to return to the USHA Four Wall Nationals- I have always seen it as a prestigious tournament, and I was very disappointed to miss last year’s edition due to the pandemic. Luckily, it has just been a 6-month wait until the next opportunity. It should be fun!

Fiona Tully has quickly risen into the top two or three in the women’s game since 2019. You have had great rivalries with Aisling Reilly, Martina McMahon, and now Fiona appears to be the next to challenge you for number one. Do these rivalries inspire you?

Absolutely! These types of rivalries and competition are what forces any player to continue to improve and evolve. It’s always very rewarding to perform well against a tough opponent. Fiona is very skillful and a great athlete- I look forward to the challenge!

Since winning the WR48 Player’s Championship for the seventh time in April, how have you prepared for the upcoming USHA Four Wall Nationals?

I can’t believe how quickly the weeks have flown by! I didn’t play much for the first few weeks following Salt Lake, in order to take a mental and physical break. Then I did some gym-work, and over the last 3 weeks or so have increased my court-time. Hopefully I’ve gotten the balance right between feeling fresh and being well-prepared!
