The Olympic Club is hosting its Annual OC Handball Invitational as a R48 Pre-Qualifier for the World Players of Handball’s 2023/24 Race 4 Eight Pro Tour season. The champion of the 2023 OC Invitational/R48 Pre-Qualifier will earn a $300 travel stipend to the 2023/24 Race 4 Eight Pro stop of his choice, redeemable upon completion of his first match at the Race 4 Eight event of his choice.

The event kicks off on Saturday morning, October 21 at the famed Olympic Club, located 524 Post St., San Francisco, CA 94102.

The NYAC’s Stephen Cooney won the 2022 edition of the OC Invitational R48 Pre-Qualifier against a strong field that included the Olympic Club’s two-time R48 finalist and former R48 #2 Emmett Peixoto, the Olympic Club’s head handball coach and R48 top 20 pro Loren Collado, the Olympic Club’s Erik Torres and a number of other top players from the west coast. Expect another strong field this October at the Olympic Club.

OC Invitational R48 Pre-Qualifier Info

  • Ball: Red 21
  • Matches: Best of 3 to 15, win by 2 in each game
  • Price: $65 per entrant for Pro Qualifier division
  • Date/Time: October 21st9am start time à October 22nd 10am start time
  • Registration deadline: October 18th at noon PST
  • Total Participants: 32 for Pro Qualifier
  • The travel stipend is non-transferrable and can only be used by the winner of the event

WPH RACE 4 EIGHT: The World Players of Handball’s 2023/24 Race 4 Eight XIII Powered by ESPN features Race 4 Eight stops in Oregon, Arizona, Missouri, Montana and Mexico, all culminating with The Player’s Championship in Utah in May of 2023. Similar to NASCAR’s Nextel Cup and the FedEx PGA Playoffs, players earn points in the Race 4 Eight’s regular season stops to qualify for the season-ending Player’s Championship and bonus prizes.

DV brings 25 years of broadcast radio experience (in Oregon and California) to World Players of Handball & ESPN broadcasts and provides professionalism and wit to the amazing game of handball. DV also serves as the Executive Director of the World Player of Handball at the WPH headquarters in Tucson, AZ, working daily to grow the game of handball through innovation.
