Niamh Heffernan Honored as the 2023/2024 WPH WR48 Rookie of the Year

Tucson, AZ, WPH Press, 12/3/24

The World Players of Handball was proud to recognize Niamh Heffernan as the 2023/24 WR48 Race 4 Eight Rookie of the Year. Niamh ended the 2023/24 WR48 season as number three in the WR48 rankings, finishing third in her first WR48 start in St. Louis in January of 2024 and advancing to the finals of the 2024 WR48 Player’s Championship in May, setting the standard for future WR48 rookies.

“Winning this award felt great,” stated Niamh, who made her first GAA Senior Final in early November at the GAA Golden Gloves, defeating current world champion Ciana Ni Churraoin in the semifinals. “I feel this year I’ve really progressed on my handball skills. I’ve trained hard over the year, so it was nice to receive something to recognise that. It’s my first year going to America to play in the pro stops so I’m proud of myself on what I’ve achieved over there and I’m looking forward to playing in the competitions this year.”

The World Players of Handball and all of our players and fans look forward to watching Niamh on the WR48 tour for many years to come.
