New Orleans, LA, WPH Press, 2/13/17- The World Players of Handball and the New Orleans Handball Community are thrilled to host the WPH Race 4 Eight 6 Stop #4 & Mardi Gras Open, featuring the top professional handball players in the world competing on handball’s most prestigious professional handball tour live on the Watch ESPN App. The WPH Race 4 Eight 6 Stop #4 & Mardi Gras Open will be held at the Elmwood Fitness Center in Harahan, LA, February 17th-19th, 2017, located at 1200 S. Clearview Parkway, Harahan, LA 70123, just nine miles from the French Quarter and eight miles from downtown New Orleans.
The Race 4 Eight #1 pro Mando Ortiz (CA) will headline a strong R48 field that includes every member of the Race 4 Eight’s top 12. Ortiz will be seeking his second R48 title of the season and third trip to the finals, but will have to contend with a white hot Luis Moreno (AZ), fresh off his 10th R48 title at the Plummer Bash in Idaho. R48 #2 Sean Lenning (WA) will be in search of his first R48 title in 15 months, while current WPH R48 Player’s Champion and 2016 New Orleans finalist Killian Carroll (IRE) will be aiming to continue his stellar play after a brief hiatus from the tour. David Fink (AZ), Emmett Peixoto (CA), Daniel Cordova (TX), and Vic Perez (CA) round out the Elite 8, with each setting his sights on his first R48 title.
Joining the Elite 8 will be a deep pool of qualifiers, including former Elite 8 superstar Luis Cordova (MEX), Marcos Chavez (CA), Andy Nett (MN), Shorty Ruiz (AZ), Abraham Montijo (AZ), Adam Bernhard (TX), and Ryan Bowler (CAN). In total, eight states and four countries will be represented in New Orleans’ blockbuster Race 4 Eight event.
Each match from The Big Easy will be broadcast live on the ESPN App ESPNApp (here), as the WPH continues its electrifying handball coverage for the third consecutive season on the Worldwide Leader in Sports.
The WPH Race 4 Eight 6 Stop #4 & Mardi Gras Open Powered by ESPN features not only the best pro handball players in the game, but also exciting junior clinics throughout the weekend, with Race 4 Eight pros coaching junior handball clinics for junior and collegiate handball players.

WPH RACE 4 EIGHT: The World Players of Handball’s Race 4 Eight 6 Powered by ESPN and features seven stops, culminating with The Player’s Championship in Salt Lake City in April of 2017. Similar to Nascar’s Nextel Cup and the FedEx PGA Playoffs, players earn points in the Race 4 Eight’s first six stops to qualify for the season-ending Player’s Championship and bonus prizes. Ireland’s Robbie McCarthy claimed the first title of the season at the Simple Green U.S. Open in October, current Race 4 Eight #1 Mando Ortiz claimed the second event of the season in Minnesota, and Luis Moreno became the second 10-time Race 4 Eight champion at the Plummer Bash in Idaho at the season’s third stop. Following New Orleans, the Race 4 Eight will head to Houston, New York City, and Salt Lake City.
