Aoife McCarthy was awarded the “WPH Rock Star” award for her incredible efforts throughout the summer of 2014 in assisting the WPH and the growth of the game of handball. “Rock Star” McCarthy coached over 200 junior clinics throughout the summer in Tucson, Southern California and Las Vegas, enthusiastically recruited new players and assisted WPH Staff in various duties, including watching over 100 hours of Race 4 Eight film to compute player stats that will debut on the Race 4 Eight IV tour ESPN3 broadcasts.
“I have said this before and it bears repeating… [Vincent scratches his chin while re-remembering the exact wording] ‘Do a bunch by Lunch, be a winner by Dinner!’ Aoife’s work ethic will make her a successful in her post collegiate career. From office duties, clinics, tournament control, and general help, she has always made a strong effort,” barked WPH Executive Director David Vincent. “Aoife not only introduced Junior WPH to new and valuable coaching techniques, but was successful in helping us form an after school handball program. She even dedicated an entire month to watching R48 film and analyzing the most detailed and accurate stats of all of our top players. These types of stats have never before been computed in handball and the data will tremendously add to our broadcasts.”
“Aoife moved to Tucson for the summer and became an invaluable asset to the WPH,” revealed WPH Development Director David Fink. “Aoife is unquestionably a WPH Rock Star for the impact she made on the Tucson handball community and hundreds of juniors players she introduced to the game over the past three months. We were extremely fortunate to have had her tremendous work ethic and passion for handball during her stay in Tucson.”
The costs of hosting Aoife McCarthy, to include flight, lodging and living expenses, were substantial for the WPH.
