Tournament director Joe Berthiaume was proud to present the 14th Annual Honey Martin’s Big Ball Tournament at Parc LeBer, Point-St-Charles Park on the fourth of July, featuring players from across Canada.
The Men’s 1-Wall big ball singles featured 16 players, with Jerome Santerre entering the event as the top seed.
Santerre advanced to the final in the upper bracket, defeating Matt C. in the upper bracket semifinals. Joe Berthiaume upset second-seeded Ralphael Santerre in the bottom bracket semifinals to meet Jerome in the final.
Jerome was too strong for Berthiaume in the final, winning convincingly to claim the Honey Martin.
“I was serving really well today,” Jerome would later say. “Joe played incredible 1-Wall today and just run out of gas in the final against me. Running a tournament and being able to reach final against strong opponents is an accomplishment by itself.
I am really proud of the group of juniors that I brought from Quebec as well. They will be representing Canada in the 19 & under in the World Championship in September in NY. One of them, Mylan Boudreault, was able to win the drop-down bracket against strong opponents, defeating Andrew Short from Newfoundland and Julien Pelissier from Montreal, even if those players were more experienced.
Overall, the quality of the participants overshadowed the total number of entries and it was a really good event.
Juniors participated and competitors from different provinces faced each other.
I took this event as a preparation for the Worlds, so I played seriously and delivered strong performance this year.”
