After a seven-month hiatus from pro handball due to the pandemic, the WPH reintroduced pro handball in September of 2020 with the WPH Icebreaker 3-Wall pro tour. Following all of the CDC and City of Tucson guidelines, the WPH has safely hosted pro events at Clark Park, the crown jewel of outdoor handball. While the first event in September of 2020 featured just the four players and the video engineer, the most recent events have allowed the WPH to host more players and fans, at the direction of the CDC and the City of Tucson.
“We are proud that we have safely broken the ice and provided our pro players with a chance to compete, while giving handball fans around the world an opportunity to watch the best players in action,” stated WPH Executive Director Dave Vincent.
Since September of 2020, The WPH has hosted five men’s pro singles Icebreakers and two women’s pro singles Icebreakers, in addition to three two-player Icebreaker exhibition matches.
Through five Icebreaker events, David Fink has earned the #1 men’s ranking with two titles and a third place finish, while Shorty Ruiz sits in the number two spot with two finals appearances and a third.
Dr. Ashley Moler heads the women’s rankings with one win and one runner-up, while Moler’s newest rival Mikaila Mitchell sits in the second position with one win and a third.
The WPH Icebreaker rankings are compiled by WPH Rankings Director Nick Flores.
