Fred Lewis Foundation 2021 Spring Tournament at Clark Park

WPH Press, Tucson, AZ

The Fred Lewis Foundation proudly hosted the 2021 FLF Spring Tournament on April 24, 2021 at Tucson’s Clark Park, featuring more than 25 junior players between the ages of 7-17 on Clark Park’s 3-Wall handball courts.

“This was an awesome tournament,” declared FLF Executive Director and head coach Abraham Montijo. “You are always surprised, and this one was no different. Even found some inspiration watching them play.”

Coach Montijo progresses his players from “catch and throw” to full court matches. “Some of our seven year-olds play “catch and throw,” and will be ready to play real matches in the next six to twelve months.”

Coach Montijo and FLF have had to be proactive in creating opportunities for competition during the past 12 months.

“Unfortunately with Covid, we have not been able to travel to tournaments, so we’ve had to do things on our own to keep these kids engaged in handball activities and keep that competition alive,” stated Coach Montijo. This is the second tournament we’ve done in the last six months.”

While Montijo organized and ran the event, FLF Coach Sean Lenning ran the tournament desk, FLF Coach Luis Estrella organized the hospitality for the FLF players, and FLF Founder Fred Lewis and the rest of the FLF team contributed their time and energy throughout the one-day event.

The 2021 FLF Spring Tournament also featured a special 3-Wall doubles exhibition match between Montijo and Lenning and the Cordova brothers.

Congratulations to FLF on a wonderful event.
