The Fred Lewis Foundation proudly presented the 2023 KIDCO Summer Handball Tournament at the Udall Park handball courts on Tucson’s east side, featuring 40 kids competing in big ball singles. Fred Lewis Executive Director and handball ambassador Abraham Montijo and his staff of coaches and volunteers, to include R48 pro Ivan Burgos, WR48 pro Belisa Camacho, Andres Sandoval and many others, ran an outstanding event for the youngsters, complete with referees, trophies, lunch, and an extremely positive space for the young handballers.
“I just did all of the grunt work this summer, scheduling the sessions and organizing, while our coaches worked with the kids,” stated Montijo, who oversees 51 employees during the summer in his position with the Tucson Recreation Centers. “We have some really nice players who have been with us for more than a year who are really starting to get good.”
Coach Montijo and the Fred Lewis Foundation will head to Southern California later in the week to compete in the USHA National Junior 3-Wall Championships.
Congratulations to Abraham and the Fred Lewis Foundation on an outstanding 2023 KIDCO summer event and for promoting and growing the game for so many years.
