Results for the 49th Annual Rudy Harris Handball Tournament: 31 players from North Dakota, Minnesota, Manitoba, Kansas, and Florida gathered at the Fercho YMCA in Fargo, ND on September 5-6 for quality competition on the court and fun off the court at the Friday Night Social and Saturday Night Banquet.

The ever-hungry Mankato State University team members helped us set the record for the highest tab we’ve ever had for the Friday Night Social at Rhombus Guys Pizza – I hope we filled you up and you all had fun in Fargo guys!

Even though the Kansas crew hasn’t been playing long, they represented their state well on the court and didn’t look like “newer” players.  In December, the Kansas crew will be hosting their first ever handball tournament in Salina (see the list of tournaments below for more information).  Hopefully, we can get some northern players down there to support them and help make their first tournament a success!

The results for “The Rudy” below:

OPEN SINGLES

Champion: Bryan Trejo (Mankato, MN)

Runner-Up: Luke Sandy (Fargo, ND)

ConsolationIsiah Jones (Moorhead, MN)

Race 4 Eight star Luke Sandy and current Minnesota State Mankato All-American and future Race 4 Eight star Bryan Trejo stole the show in Fargo at the Rudy, playing a sensational final. With both known for their speed and athleticism, Trejo and Sandy dazzled with their gets and kills. Trejo survived a game point in the first game and seized control of the match from there.

“(The final was) Tiring, first game took like an hour ended 21-20,” stated Sandy. “Ran out of gas second game but it was a great match. Bryan is getting really good.”

“The final went great,” Rudy champion Trejo would later say. “The first game was a battle, as always against Luke. Going into the second game, I had a strategy going, as I didn’t do any drive serves. I was doing a straight lob to the left, as I saw Luke was getting tired. I wanted to take advantage of that and get some good setups of the returns. He seemed to struggle with the lob and mentally just broke him down and came out on top pretty easy in the second game.”

Final: Trejo def Sandy 21-20, 21-6
