DF’s Around the Handball Globe: 2/14/16

President’s Day weekend saw longtime WPH member and RFC standout Andrew “JCC” Joseph capture his second Sharon Open singles title in Sharon, PA, avenging a 2015 finals loss at the Sharon Open. Joseph defeated Cleveland’s Carlos Vasquez and Sharon’s John Thiel en route to the final, and overcame 2015 Sharon Open champion Jay Cattron in the final, punctuating the dominant victory with a 36-foot flat rollout on match point to win 21-18, 21-6. Congratulations Andrew and see you at the RFC!

Are you excited about the R48 V Stop #4 in “H” Town? The R48’s Elite 8 have entered, including 11-time R48 champion Paul Brady. Joining the Elite 8 is arguably the best qualifier in R48 history, with former Simple Green U.S. Open champion and former R48 champion Allan Garner and five-time R48 finalist Naty Alvarado Jr. headlining a spectacular field that includes seven R48 ranked pros, a former collegiate national champion, and plenty of young guns aspiring to earn their first R48 ranking.

The Seniors will also be in action in the 12th SR48 stop in the fourth season of the SR48 tour, with five-time Sr48 champion Marcos Chavez leading a strong field that includes Naty Alvarado, Andy Schad, Dan Armijo, and Dan Zimet.
