Long Island, NY, WPH Press, 1/27/20- The 2020 Long Island Open featured a strong Men’s Open Singles field led by current R48 #18 and former R48 Elite invitee Stephen Cooney, all-around handball star Tyree Bastidas, R48 qualifier hopeful Matt Chu, and 1-Wall stars Victor LoPierre, Joe Kaplan, Alvaro Rebaza, Ignazio Accardi and a number of New York’s best.

Stephen Cooney entered the Long Island Open as the top seed and cruised to the final in the upper bracket, while Tyree Bastidas was equally impressive in the bottom bracket to setup a final between the top two seeds. Cooney took game one of the final, pushing Bastidas into the back court with punch fist drives to force errors and setups. Bastidas rallied in game two, forcing a tiebreaker after standing just two points from elimination. Cooney relied on his experience in the final, winning the title in an exciting third game.

Final: Cooney def T. Bastidas 15-8, 13-15, 11-6

Cooney teamed with Arthur Sayed to slam the doubles, defeating Cesar Sala and Jai Ragoo.
